Shop Spotlight: Cinder + Salt

Rachel DeCavage had been printing for many years when she started her current business, Cinder + Salt.  Learn about Rachel and her printed apparel and accessories.

"I started printing at the ripe age of 10 years old, when my father built me a platform in front of his printing press, so I could reach it. In college, I tried to learn as many trades as possible and focused my studio time in ceramics, print making and fashion design.

My career goals are simple: make things every day and be a good steward of the Earth. These are the guiding principles behind my brand, Cinder + Salt. As I develop the brand in apparel and accessories, I'm always looking for ways to use my background in various art forms to enhance our product line.

Cinder + Salt started as a small boutique in Southington, CT, formerly Sugarplum USA. In early 2014, I rebranded and bought out my father's print shop. Cinder + Salt now offers full-service custom screenprinting services and maintains a mens, womens and childrens apparel brand that releases new mini-collections each month.

The name, Cinder + Salt, was inspired by the residue of a weekend well spent: the scent of campfire on your clothes and the taste of salt water on your skin. We keep the print-shop as environmentally low-impact as possible and maintain that as one of our highest company values. All apparel is printed by hand, with love, on our manual press."
